A residential renovation and carport addition in the Macfarlane Homestead Historic District of Coral Gables, one of Miami's most carefully preserved neighborhoods. Working within the District's historic preservation guidelines, CA+ studied the typology and character of the surrounding homes before proposing any intervention. The result is an addition that reads as considered and contextual: decorative column and railing details drawn from the historic vernacular, a high-contrast blue and white palette that references the neighborhood's established identity, and natural wood accents that soften the composition. The project involved a community engagement and socialization process with the historic district, a requirement that CA+ navigated with precision, bringing the proposal through review without compromising the design intent.
